Anyone know when applications open? Their site only says spring 2018.

REAP Summer Program 2018
Hi! I was wondering if anyone here has done or heard anything about the army educational outreach REAP program (https://www.usaeop.com/program/reap/)? If you could tell me about your experiences or what the day to day schedule looks like that would be great! I haven't heard much about the program, but I would love to learn more.

WTP @ MIT or SAMS @ CMU?
Hi, I got accepted to the Women's Technology Program for EECS at MIT and the Summer Academy for Math and Science at Carnegie Mellon. I am unsure of which program is program is better, they're both really great, and I'm weighing my options. Does one look better to colleges than the other? I know WTP is more difficult to get into and has the MIT name, but there are many appealing aspects to SAMS and it's still at a great university.
SAMS
- 6 weeks
- CMU credit and non-credit seminars in math, science, and computer science
- project
- free
- SAT prep included
- Personal and Career development workshops
- real college experience at CMU
- about 17% acceptance rate (120 students selected)
WTP
- 4 weeks
- non-credit classes (electrical engineering, comp sci, math)
- project
- little less of a true college experience, slightly more summer camp-y but still very rigorous
- MIT and basically free
- 8.6% acceptance (60 girls selected)

Bucknell Engineering Camp
Has anyone done this camp? Seems like a great experience, as it’s taught by Bucknell Univ. professors and includes various types of engineering. Would be interested in hearing if it was worthwhile.

Google CSSI 2018
I just now received an email from CSSI and I got accepted for Cambridge MA. If anyone else here got selected too, I am looking for friends! Also, I am from India and I'll be visiting U.S for the first time, so, if you are too from India and/or in the same situation like me, lets get in touch. Also, if you know anything about the visa process it would be awesome if you could help me in this.

USC Summer Program for High School Students
Hi
My son (current freshman) is very interested in USC media/film/CS programs for undergrad. He is contemplating a 'for credit' summer course at USC for this summer - perhaps a course in video game design or 3D design . Any reviews/advice would be very helpful. TIA.

Summer Theater Programs: Carnegie Mellon or Emerson
Daughter (10th grade) has been accepted into summer theater (straight acting, not musical theater) programs at CMU and Emerson. Any thoughts or experience about which one would be better? Some seem to say that CMU is focused on the college audition process. She is also interested in comedy/improv and has heard that Emerson would be better for that.

NSLI-Y 2018 - 2019
It's about time for a new thread, right? Applications opened up approx. 2 days ago for 2018-2019. How are you coming along with your applications, what language do you want to study, & where?
For those who don't know, they introduced a new trip to Indonesia for learning Bahasa Indonesia, if any of you are interested. But I believe it's only available during the summer.

MIT Summer Program BeaverWorks Info
Hi,
Does anyone know details about this program? How useful it is and does it help college admissions? The fee for the program is pretty steep and we need to pay for travel and expenses so we want to ensure that it is worth it before we accept.
Help appreciated...

Summer Internship vs Research Opportunity
Hey CC! I was luckily accepted into a summer intern position and a research program this summer, and I'm having a very, very hard time deciding which one to attend, so I want your input. I really want to do both programs. However, there are time commitments for both programs that I will not be able to meet. In the future, I hope to major in computer science and economics.
The intern opportunity is paid, and I'm part of the first class of interns for this opportunity. It's also a real-life job/office experience, and the companies have told us that they would actually like our input on their work and will assign us projects to do rather than make us make coffee or copies for them. I would love the opportunity to gain work experience!
On the other hand, the summer research opportunity is at a local university, and I had NO IDEA I would get in. It's pretty prestigious, and many people who do research here end up publishing papers or winning prizes in science fair. I've never had research experience before, so it would be really nice to participate in this program to gain some experience.
I'm stuck right in the middle on which one I should choose, and I would really appreciate any tips y'all have! Thank you so much!
