Summer Programs 2020

Hello

I am exploring four options for my summer activities in 2020: (1) Internship at MITRE (attend again) (2) LaunchX program in Univ of Michigan (3) Boston University RISE program (4) Summer Coursework thru Columbia Immersion
I do like all of them equally, I was wondering if you could provide insights on which one would be more effective from the perspective of learning and college admissions.

Thanks,

I am planning on applying to these summer programs. How would y'all rank them from most prestigious to least prestigious? Are there any other good ones where the deadlines haven't passed? How would y'all rank them from hardest to get in to easiest to get in?

Hi! I'm looking into this program and it really honestly seems fantastic, but I don't think I'd have a semblance of a chance. I have a 34 on the ACT (listen, aight, I got it freshman year and I cannot take it again before the deadline), 4.62 uw GPA, some volunteer work, a job, and a few leadership positions. No big awards or anything, only one state award. I'm a white guy from Appalachia in case that's important. I'd really like to study language learning there (the actual process of learning one, not just learning a language) and I would really like to apply, but I'd like to know if I should even bother.

Hello, everyone! We're a group of alums from the 2019 AMP Global Scholar summer program. We realized that there was not yet a community on here to answer questions about the program and offer advice for those considering applying, which is why we decided to start this thread. We all had wonderful experiences at camp and want to help those of you who are considering applying. We are excited to tell you more about the experience and/or answer questions for anyone applying for this summer session. Please ask away!

Asking for Multiple Recommendations

I have currently applied to 2 summer programs and I am planning on applying to 4 more. Each one requires 2 teacher recommendations. I am afraid that my teachers will get annoyed at the multiple recommendations.

Is it okay to ask the same teachers for recommendations for my next 4 applications?
I told them to save their previous recs because I will be applying to more.

so i was wondering what exactly a rising junior should do over the summer -- i was considering applying for columbia's college edge program, which is 6 weeks of classes and offers college credits, but i was wondering if this would actually look good considering that precollege programs can be kind of iffy like that. does anyone know anything about this program? other than that, i was also thinking of doing an internship at a local small bookshop (or at the MET?) which of these sounds most advisable, if any of them?

Hi
I am interested in science, and especially medicine. I was wondering whether SSP or HSHSP have better research and which one is considered a better opportunity.
Thanks for your help

Hi,
I am doing this program this summer and just wanted to ask how it was for everybody who has done this in the past. How is it socially? Are there any parties? Is there a heavy workload?
thanks

Is the Columbia Pre-College Summer Immersion program any good?

Hi,

I'm a freshman who applied to Columbia Pre-College summer program on Feb. 9. I was accepted today (Feb. 10) -- kind of a quick acceptance, are they even reading the applications? Anyway, I have a few questions for anyone who knows, or has attend, the program.

1) Is the program any good?I've heard a lot, lot of bad things about it, ranging for students who don't care, to a sub-par education
2) Does it help when applying to undergrad?
3) How is the teaching?
4) How are commuter students treated? Are they excluded as much as others say they are?
5) Do the people working their care?
6) Lastly, most importantly, did you actually learn a lot that helped you?

Btw - I applied to the 3-week version and got accepted for Understanding the Stock Makret

HELP! Accepted into the Columbia Pre-College program, but is it any good?

Tried googling and searching forums but no results.

Any insight into the Boston U AIM (specifically Medicine)? Or the Tufts Summer Research? Costs aside, usefulness and strengths of programs? Cons?

I'm thinking of applying to City of Hope's Diabetes And Metabolism Research Institute Summer Research Program - has anyone ever successfully applied and was accepted into it? (Or just applied).
If yes, do you have any words of advice for the application/your experience there as a whole?

Thanks so much!

Does anyone have direct experience with 2 or all 3 (for comparison) of these summer programs? Hoping DD gets into all 3; has anyone had experience with financial aid from these programs, and which has the highest standard for skill level? What are the dorms like? Fingers crossed will get into all 3! thanks in advance!

I thought I'd start a thread for this program since I don't see one yet. The application is open. I know it's an awesome program. Anyone else applying?
