Hey guys, I noticed that no one started a new Penn Engineering thread for this year. Just in case you didn't know, ESAP is Engineering Summer Academy at Penn. It's the rebranded SAAST from previous years. I just got in to biotech for summer 2016 and was wondering if anyone else got in.

PGSS and Lehigh SEI
Hi All,
I was wait listed (alternate) for both PGSS - PA Governors School of Sciences at CMU and Lehigh's Summer Engineering Institute. I am wondering if there is any chance I will move off of the wait list. The SEI program says accepted people must reply by 4/18. Does anyone know the date that PGSS acceptances had to be returned by? I would really like to get into either one. Does anyone know how many people tend to be waitlisted and what if any percentage of those get to go? Alternate is better than rejected, but I don't know if I should be hopeful at all.
Thanks!

Can you be rejected from Columbia's Summer Program? (high school)
Has anyone you know ever been rejected from this program? Everyone I know has been accepted and I'm starting to question its selectivity.

BU RISE vs UCSC SIP
Hi! I am a rising senior and I was accepted to both BU RISE and UCSC SIP this summer. After comparing these two programs, I found them really similar. I was wondering which one would benefit me more, and overall which one is more prestigious in terms of college applications. Thanks!

The application just came out, so I just decided to start this thread about the Dartmouth Bound program. I plan on applying, so I was just wondering if anyone can give me any insight on the application process or the program itself. Any others planning on applying?

Princeton Summer Journalism Program 2016
Hey for anyone who applied, have any of you received an email from Princeton whether you got in or not? I'm not sure if they haven't send out responses yet, but I'm also a bit anxious that they won't send out emails to those who didn't get chosen. They have to inform those of us who were rejected right?

Anyone else accepted to the Boston Leadership Program?
Hello, everyone!
I am interested in reading who else got in! What program for? What are you most excited about? Ever been to Boston?
I applied to get into their Biomedical and Surgical Research. While the program is what I have ever dreamed of for a summer program, I am interested in meeting others who share the same passion in surgery as I am. I personally never went to Boston, and will be on my own! I'd like to get a feel of what independence is like before I go off to college, whether or not I'll be ready to leave home for a good while!
So, what about you? I'd love to read what got you into BLI!

Looking for Mobile programming options in San Jose, CA
My son is going for a debate camp in UCLA for 2 weeks. He was also interested in mobile programming camps.
Any suggestion for online course for mobile programming. He has done basic Java in his 10th grade. Due to his debate camp dates we are exploring online options to avoid conflicts.

Michigan Math and Science Scholars
I just got accepted into this program at university of Michigan for the summer and I was just wondering if there is anyone who has been there before and could answer some of my questions. Do a lot of people go on the cedar point and baseball trips? And are they worth it? Is there any items I should bring that aren't necessarily on the packing list or are there any things I should be sure to bring? We're the classes hard? I'm in one about statistics and how they are used in stuff. Sounds interesting, but I'm concerned that it won't be very interactive. Are the classes, even the math classes, engaging? Are the counseled lenient and chill or super uptight? Lastly, was it fun? If anyone could answer these I would greatly appreciate it!

Cal Poly SLO EPIC summer program vs. USC Mission Engineering
Someone please advise which is a more exploratory summer program for a rising senior to explore different field in Engineering? I got in EPIC and was told 5-6 engineering companies will give seminar during the 1-week camp. There is also 8 labs, you choose 4 each of day of week and each last 2 hours and it's in the actual lab in the Engineering college. The rest of the day is split between admission advices and visiting companies seminar in the field. USC, on other hand is a state of art campus. It's 2 week 9-4pm daily hands-on building project. I heard they will go to JPL for tour this summer. But I think the project are students led and in a classroom, not at the lab. No overnight stay so I will miss the dormitory experience. Both is almost free to me with scholarship provided. Anyone please advise which is more benefit for a rising senior to explore Engineering?

University of Miami's Summer Scholar Program
Academics: Marine Biology was extremely difficult...you have 8 hours of class time. 4 hours for straight lecture, and then 4 hours for a field assignment. Over one week, I wrote 3 lab write-ups, had 50 identifications (of marine shells), and a final! There was also a deep-sea fishing trip, 3 snorkeling days, and some kayaking, which kept the class fun. The teachers? Eh. One week teacher was very enthusiastic, but his class was very work intensive, another week's teachers were bored but generally willing to help, another openly told us he was forced to do this! Many also said they "didn't believe in sunblock" (IN SOUTH FLORIDA!!!). The CA said that this was a very good cross-section of the marine biology classes she took as a freshman at UM.
Other programs, from what I've heard: Film is a great experience (you make a 7-10 minute movie, by yourself or in a group, your choice), Health and Medicine is good, ones that had little work-Global Politics, Forensics, Sports Management, Art, Engineering
Experience: The activities are great. Every morning and night after classes end on Friday afternoon has an OPTIONAL activity. South Beach, snorkeling, tons of stuff. You could suggest activities, and as long as you had enough CA's, you could go, for example, to a restaurant or movie. The campus is beautiful, exactly like the brochures. The other students were really nice and very smart-most, if not all, were in the #1 or #2 school in their state.
Pros: Campus, Activities, In-Class Trips, Other Students
Cons: Lots of work or very little work, Some uninterested teachers, Only three weeks, program ends right after finals, no "totally free" days

National Youth Leadership Forum: Engineering & Technology
I'm planning to enroll into this program because I got a few emails from them and it looks pretty interesting. Is it a total scam? I'm not necessarily enrolling to put it on my college app, but to learn more about engineering/tech. Has anyone gone? How were your experiences?
