Does anyone know if Morocco is open to people with no prior French skills this year?

Now accepting applications for YSPA 2020. https://yspa.yale.edu/

YSPA is a 2-week online + 4-week residential research and enrichment program for 32 rising high school seniors who are interested in astronomy, physics, math, computer programming, and other science and tech fields.

YSPA has a small student-to-faculty ratio (32:5), so students get to know each other and the faculty very well. It’s a summer experience like no other.

Applications are due on March 8, 2020.

What to do this summer?

Hi, I am a current junior who is interested in English/Humanities as well as Foreign Relations. What opportunities for the summer would be the most beneficial for my college application and be the best use of my time? I get the sense that summer "camps" are a bit of a scam, and colleges look more for hands on experiences (internships, jobs, etc.). Is this the general consensus among the college confidential community? If so, anybody have any recommendations of places or opportunities that relate to English/Humanities or Foreign Relations which I can take a look at (the best idea I can think of is working at my local paper)? If not, any suggestions of summer programs that are genuinely impressive and not just machines made to generate money for whatever prestigious organization that's running it?

Anyone have experience with SPI Study Abroad (summer program) ?

My daughter and I are considering this organization for a short Spanish immersion experience for her. I've read good reviews, but I'd also like to hear feedback from anyone on CC who has used the program (or knows someone who has). Thank you!

When applying for STEM programs (RSI, MITES), is it okay to mention my interest and experiences in the humanities? Or should I completely leave that out?

Hi, I’m a high school junior looking at residential creative writing programs, preferably ones you need to get into. My top choices are Interlochen, Kenyon Review, and Iowa. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Or know anything about the application process, what they look for in a portfolio, “acceptance rates”, boarding? Thanks!

I am planning on applying to the 2021 MIT PRIMES-USA program in September 2020. I read all the application requirements but I still have some questions. I was wondering if anyone who has applied to MIT PRIMES (USA or not) would give me an overview of their application by text or here in this discussion. I would like to know whom you got your recommendation letters from, contests you've done, classes you've taken, how many problems you solved, etc.

hello there! i'm planning to apply to some summer programs on creative writing this year. I've been looking into Kenyon, UVA Summer writing program, Bard College Young Writer's Workshop, and CSSSA. Are there any other interesting summer programs? I'm looking at programs ranging from 2-4 weeks but with a reasonable cost (around 2k-3k). Thanks!

What's the max amount of coding experience that you can have to still partake in the EECS track? I've done some coding in Python but not much. Probably up to loops and lists, and a little bit of conceptual CS stuff (algorithms). Will I still get disqualified? And if I do, how likely is it that I will end up in the mechanical engineering track?

pre-college summer progams: ideas for a shy rising senior?

We are looking for a pre-college program for a shy rising senior with an Asperger's type of profile. He has experience being away from home, but he would benefit from being part of a college-like atmosphere. I would love to find a small, welcoming program with enough structure that kids can't spend too much time in their rooms. Academic classes would be okay if they are relatively low-key, but even just electives would be fine. We are in the Northeast but would consider programs that are further away. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Hello everybody! With how busy everything has been with finals, extracurriculars, and the holidays, I now have finally gotten a chance to slow down and plan ahead for this summer. I'm looking for recommendations for summer programs for a female high school sophomore in any of these fields...
- Astronomy/planetary science
- Engineering
- STEM research
- Geology or ecology

I live in Texas, but would like to learn about programs not limited to just here.
Thank you so much for the help!

School of New York Times Summer Academy?

Hello! I have been looking into the NYT Summer programs, but due to their ~6k cost, I was wondering if I could hear from anyone on here who's attended. Was it worth it in your experience? Or, if you're willing to share, do you how up to what % of financial aid they've given of the tuition cost (for middle class)?
Specifically, I'd love to attend the DC location, so if you went there it'd be great if you could share your thoughts!
Thank you!
