Hi, I'm looking to do COSMOS in 2018, application opens on 1/4/18. I've never done this sort of application, so should I gather my rec letter and transcript before school ends this Friday, or wait until after break? I heard somewhere that the earlier you apply, the better chances you have... Also, what are my chances of getting in with 3.8 GPA weighted?

as for me, I've read the previous discussions pretty extensively, mostly out of procrastination, and the camp seems to be an incredible experience (past attendees, I'd love your input). I don't have a successful business (or a business at all), and I don't have much of a chance of getting in, but I'm really interested, so I figured I'd give it a shot anyways.

TASS 2018
TASS applications are supposed to open up in October and i really want to apply! I know it's kind of early but the application is supposed pretty long so I'd love any advice from TASS alumni. And does anyone know the acceptance rate is or how many people are expected to apply? And if this thread keeps going until october... what do you guys think of the application? It sounds like an amazing program and I really want to go but I'm scared of the application essays

Can someone who attended the UF-SSTP in past provide me with his/her research paper or tell me, in detail, about the activities. I want to apply there for mathematics or physics, so it is preferred if some describes me about the activities.
Also, can anyone send me his/her curriculum vitae(CV). I have qualified for INMO (Indian national mathematics olympiad equivalent to USAMO ) and 1st round of physics Olympiad (these are my 2 major achievements). How good is my chance of getting selected.

Iowa Young Writers' Studio 2018
Hello all,
I'm applying to the Iowa Young Writers' Studio this year, and I have a quick question about the creative writing sample that must be included in the application. Prior attendees, how did you structure your writing sample? Did you include your name and information on the first page (did you have to have a cover page)?
I don't think you need a cover page or any formal introduction to your writing samples, but I'm asking just to be sure. Any additional information would be great!

MIT LLRISE vs Georgia Tech Summer Engineering Program
Son was just accepted to MIT LLRISE and Georgia Tech SEI. Does anyone have any experience with these programs? Which one looks best on a college application? Are either one of them prestigious enough to help you get into the home school (MIT or GATECH)? If you went, what colleges were you accepted to? What can you tell me about the experiences? Yes, I know. Choose what you're interested in, but these are both really cool EECS focused programs. Hard decision since MIT and GATech are my son's #1 and #2 schools.

Engineering Summer Academy at Penn (ESAP) 2018- any acceptances?
Wondering if acceptances/results have started coming out for the Engineering summer academy at Penn (ESAP). Just wanted to start a thread to keep in the loop. My son applied after the priority deadline so not sure about his chances :( Also he is a rising sophomore so I believe the chances are even thinner for the younger ones.

CTY exorbitant withdrawal fee $1,100 (Johns Hopkins).
I registered my child for a 3 week summer camp at CTY in February. The camp was scheduled for July. By April my child got a better summer option so I decided to withdraw him from CTY. I got refunded the amount I paid minus 1,100 dollars for "administrative fees" (they say).
I understand that these are the rules they imposed and everything is in writing in the contract but I stllI have to say there's no reason in the world that justify them keeping so much money.
When I called to get my refund I was told it was going to take some time because they have a long list of withdrawals to process. So a lot of other parents are in a similar situation than me. I think with so many withdrawals this is becoming another part of their business. Charging these extremely high withdrawal fees.
CTY camps are good but unfortunately they treat it a pure business. Trying to extract the maxumum amount of money from the parents.
Just be careful when you enroll your child in one of these camps. They'll pressure you to register your child soon with the excuse that you can lose your spot but actually most of these camps are still available even in summer.

is there a one stop source for summer programs and camps?
So often I hear about other kids doing these great programs that I've never heard of or knew existed. Is there one source/site/book that captures everything or most everything? I have a feeling that the answer is no but thought I'd ask!
