Hi guys I'm currently a Junior. I'm thinking about taking a course at Columbia University this summer. I would like to know what residential life is like there. Some of my friends have attended different summer programs told me that Brown has very loose rules but Stanford has strict rules. He told me he was not allowed to leave the campus at Stanford. By any chances if any of you have attended a summer program at Columbia could you write down what you feel about there below. Very appreciated!!!

Columbia HSPx2018
Hello Everyone!
I am a sophomore in high school and I have been accepted into the Columbia High School Summer Program (Session I) for 'Entrepreneurship and Innovation: New Product Development'.
After reading innumerable articles and watching videos about the program, I have understood that like everything else, the Columbia High School Summer Program has its own pros and cons. I am an International student (India) and since middle school I have my own community service project, I have already done an internship and my co-curriculars are up to a good level. However, I have never visited The United States or visited a college before, yet, I am a US Citizen and will be applying to Colleges/Universities there in the future. Hence, I am looking forward to make new friends, create new memories, learn about different cultures but most importantly, get a feel of the ever busy city, New York and my dream college, Columbia University in the City of New York.
Also, if any of the previous students can share more information on what was done there on a daily basis, i.,e., how many trips were conducted, how liberal was the residential option, were you allowed to leave campus anytime you wanted, how much money is required to be carried by an individual, etc..
I would love to know if anyone else is attending the program and if we could get in touch before hand because I have never been on my own before and I am a tad bit scared to make new friends.
I would really appreciate all the help I could get as I am very nervous for the program.
Thank You

The Leadership Alliance Placement Notification
Has anyone applied to the Leadership Alliance for the 2018 summer? I applied for humanities programs at Brown, NYU, and Yale. Brown said notifications begin before March 1st but I haven't received anything yet. Was wondering if anyone got any offers yet and what your credentials were? Thanks!

Questbridge Prep Scholar Help?
I'm applying to Questbridge Prep Scholar, and I have a few questions.
1. I'm applying to a summer program, and I won't find out if I'm accepted or not until after the due date for Questbridge. Am I able to apply for a QB summer program, and deny it if I get into both programs in the future?
2. When they ask what type of schooling my siblings completed, does it mean completely graduated or are in at the moment? For example, my sister is an undergrad. Do I say undergrad or say that she finished high school?
3. I have a very complicated relationship with my dad in which I have his number / can call him, but I don't know where he lives, where he works, he rarely comes (I can go a year without seeing him, and when I do it's for five minutes) And he hasn't told us anything for years. Can I explain this to QB because I don't think I will be able to get his taxes / information, etc.
Thank you so much!

CMU Academy for Math and Science 2018 Discussion Thread
Hi!!
I'm considering applying for SAMS and I think it'd help me and others as well if we can share suggestions, tips, insider information, etc. on this. 6 weeks is a long time to be away from home, for me it's three hours away.
Here's my stats: GPA: 3.96 W, SAT: 1160 (First time, will be taking in March), ACT: 24 (First time, taking again in February)
AP and college level math and science, anticipating a good science recommendation
If anyone would like to share their stats, or if they've been accepted (Not sure anyone has at this point) tell what you did... anyone who has been there before and has any reviews or insider tips, all would be appreciated!!!
Also, is this more ethnic minorities that are chosen? I'm not an ethnic minority, but I am an economic minority (1st in family to go to college, rural high school, generally lower income area)

Quarter Zero
Hello! I am interested in business and looked over some programs for next summer and was wondering if anyone attended or heard about Quarter Zero. I looked it up but does not seem as "established" as Launch or Endevvr. ANy thoughts or experiences. Also how many applicants do they receive?

SAIC pre-college program actually lead to more undergrad scholarship $?
i really want to attend the school of the art institute of chicago but money is an issue for me and i really want to avoid taking out loans for school. SAIC claims that if you do their pre-college program that you'll get priority scholarship money when applying for undergrad. i'd have to apply for a scholarship for the pre-college but i'm just wondering if anyone knows if it's worth it and will actually help me get more scholarship money down the road. i want to do the program anyways, but am wondering if those claims are true. i know they waive your portfolio requirement if you do it which basically seems like automatic acceptation to me, but i'm more worried about money than i am actually getting in.

Is the BP AFS Global Scholars Program legit?
Apparently it's a new program starting from March of this year and it's all expenses paid. Deadline is this March 31st; no recs, just writing and stuff. I haven't seen much about it but the application asks for your passport and visa info which is a bit alarming.
Here's the link: https://www.afsusa.org/study-abroad/scholarships/bp/stem-academy
Anyone here participated in an AFS program or the BP AFS Global Citizens of Tomorrow program (which is similar)? Was it legit and was it a great experience?

Rockefeller SSRP essay question
Hello, could someone who was accepted for this program previously or who applied tell me how long their first essay was? (this is the one with the essay question where you get to choose the prompt you respond to). I'm trying to gauge how long it should be. Additionally, I would love any tips for applying you might have because my GPA tanked by .7 this semester, with most of the bad grades concentrated in core classes (yes, I am well aware of how bad this is, and no I do not have extenuating circumstances, I was just completely stupid and got hooked on some mobile games (not going to name which)).

YIP Internship UNC 2018
Hi everyone!
As far as I know, there isn't a thread out there yet about the Young Innovators Program this summer. As you guys know, the timeline has been pushed back several times, and they still haven't sent out all of the invitations for interviews. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from them yet, because I haven't (which is really inconvenient b/c I'm applying to several other programs).

Summer plan advice?
I'm going to be a junior September of 2017. I'm US citizen studying at Shanghai High School International Division looking to apply to US universities. I wish to major in computer science.
I'm taking IB next year. My classes are as follows:
English SL
Chinese Lang and Lit SL (at my school, native speakers must take Chinese Lang and Lit)
Math HL
Physics HL
Computer Science HL
Economics HL
At my school, you cannot take AP classes once you choose to take IB. Any APs must then be self-studied.
I'm currently drafting a challenging summer plan. I do not have any internships or summer camps planned.
My summer is going to involve studying for SAT and SAT II exams, which I hope to take during the first semester of my junior year.
I'm considering studying physics and computer science to prepare for competitions in those subjects, such as preliminary exams for Olympiads.
Unfortunately, my school's IB program does not support taking computer science and chemistry simultaneously. Therefore, I plan on studying for AP Chemistry.
I'm deliberating on what other APs I should self-study. Should I study for APs that overlap with my current class choices, such as AP CS, or ones that do not have any overlap, such as AP World History? Which subjects would you recommend? Should I study more math and science or more humanities? What are some combinations that would be good?
I understand there is huge time gap from summer to the AP exam in May next year. I'm prepared to study more during the winter and the semesters. I hope to make the best use of my summer.
Thanks!

What to do about my summer plans
I have two potential opportunities lined up for this summer: two weeks of Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts or a month-long, paid, pseudo-internship at Yellowstone national park. I don't know if I'll make it into either of them, and, obviously, if I make it into just one, it'll make this decision pretty easy. However, on the off chance that I were to make it into both, which would be a better idea? I feel the need to start thinking about this now so that I don't make a regrettable decision if I were actually faced with that circumstance.
I would like to be an ecologist or something of the sort, but money is an issue for me, and, if I were to make it into the Kentucky Governor Scholar's program, which GSA may help me with, I could go to any school in Kentucky for free. That said, I do itch to go somewhere out of state. My reachy/dreamy schools include Tulane or this obscure private school I found which has an acceptance rate of about 50%, (but that's not really all that relevant, is it? )
These two events are mutually exclusive. What do??

USC Bovard Scholars
Has anyone heard of or been apart of the USC Bovard Scholars Program? It seems like a great opportunity but I can't find any information on how difficult is to be accepted, and I'd also love to hear about past experiences. Thanks! (Not sure if this is the right forum, but it has a three-week summer program aspect? Wasn't sure where else to post)

Temple of Understanding- United Nation Internship 2018
Has anyone attended the UN internship, called Temple of Understanding(TOU)? It is a program for high school students. I want to apply for 2018 but is it an actual UN internship. And is it worth the money($1600) we have to pay?

Interlochen Summer Arts Camp-High School Digital Filmmaking
My son just got admitted to the Interlochen summer program for high schoolers in film. He's taken a number of film courses at school as well as attended a number of film camps. Is this program worth the expense? I'm just wanting to make sure he is challenged and will benefit from this experience, I've read online that the music programs are the most rigorous and other programs less so? Anyone who has attended this program? Would appreciate your input, thanks!
