Hi all, I applied to ISSYP (International Summer School for Young Physicists) this year, and I'm eagerly awaiting April 29, when we find out who has been accepted into ISSYP. Is there anyone else on CC who's applied to ISSYP this year or attended it in recent years? If so, I thought it'd be fun to get to know each other!

Hi everybody, I applied for the LEAD summer business program and was deemed a semifinalist (basically waitlisted). Do any of the old LEADers know when semifinalist acceptance results come out and also the probability of getting in? I have another summer activity waiting and will reject that one right away if I am accepted into LEAD. Thanks!

What was the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program like?

I got accepted into it and before I do it, I want to know what it was like-- especially if you have experience in one of the NYC programs. What did you do there? Were there times when it was boring or too much commitment? Did people actually get dress coded there?

Hi! Recently, as a sophomore in high school, I applied to HCSSiM. I was wondering how long it takes for the program to get back to you on whether or not you are accepted, and what the acceptance rate is? Also, could someone who got into the program share their stats? Thank you!

How much do test scores matter for RSI?

I'm wondering because I am considering retaking my ACT (35C: 35E 36M 32R 35S) and SAT (expecting 1450+ since I'm going into this test severely unprepared) to heighten my chances for getting into the Research Science Institute. I know that it is super selective, but since they're basically only evaluating based on the first two years of high school and a semester of junior year, I was thinking that maybe the standardized tests matter more since most students' ECs don't really get intense until junior year. I have/am gone/going into both my standardized tests with minimal prep, so I believe that with prep I can at least match those scores. Should I retake or let my ECs make up for not having perfect scores? The program will probably only take one from my state, and the last person from my school who went had a perfect SAT when she applied. (Sorry if this is in the wrong section I just hoped more people would see it here)

Hi, I was accepted to Carleton College's Summer Humanities Program and I was planning on going there. I was put on the waiting list at Stanford for their summer humanities program. Today I learned I was accepted into Stanford's program, so I am wondering which one I should go to. I want to go to Carleton for college, but Stanford is simply amazing. Has anyone ever been to both and which one did they enjoy more. Thanks,

[Please help me] Choosing between 2 summer camps to attend

Hi guys, I am an international student from a developing country, in the middle of deciding whether I should participate in either of these two programs ( if this is too long you can skip to the end of my post) 1. U-Motion Camp in collaboration with UWC Changshu China: Beijing, 2 weeks The total fee is $3000, but I've received a partial scholarship worth of $1500. However, the cheapest flight tickets would be around $500, adding up to $2000 in total. Although the camp will certainly be an enriching experience for me (personal development and cultural exploration), it would be too luxurious for my family to afford. I need to give them confirmation by June 4. 2. Asian Leadership Student Conference: Singapore, 4 days I will have to pay $1000 in total, and my family is willing to pay for it. However, the conference is a 'conference', and a leadership camp is not what I have in mind about self-development and self-exploration. Some of the students at my high school who attended it last year have got into really prestigious colleges after getting the gold medals from the conference. But since they have already had great credentials, I don't know if attending the 'international' conference helped the college admission much. Can you please offer me some insight into how summer activities like these are viewed by college admission officers? What would you choose if you were me? To recap: The conference would be cheaper and valuable for my application, but not fulfilling enough for me, whether the camp costs twice but offers valuable experience ( I don't know whether college officers regard summer camps highly, since some wealthy students just need to pay money for it without demonstrating qualifications) Thank you a lot !!!

This thread is for people who scored at or above the 90th percentile on the NGE and are applying for the Summer Study trip. The deadline is today, so this thread is somewhat pointless, but it'll give us a place to talk while we wait.

National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security? A scam or worth the experience?

Today I received a phone call from someone who said they were from Admissions from a group named ENVISION. The person said I was "nominated" to attend the "National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security: Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense." I have never heard of this group, but they said they sent me something in the mail (I haven't received anything (yet)). It sounds fancy, but I've read both positive and negative feedback. Last year, I received a similar invite to attend the "Congress of Future Medical Leaders" from the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Students. I didn't get to attend, but are programs like these worth taking the plunge to spend money on? The call I received today I found to be interesting because I am interested in a military career (But I know I could go to a recruitment office, instead of having to fly to D.C :P), and I am pretty sure no one actually nominated me because I've been working with my teachers all week so I think it either came from a survey I probably took when I did my entrance exam tests.

Hey, ya'll! I got accepted into the West Point SLE program for session 2, and I was wondering who else is attending. Feel free to comment if you are too, or you're in the midst of "pending", hahaha. Seems like it's best to make friends beforehand, so once we all arrive together, we can eventually meet up! :)

Girls State... help?

I want to run for governor at Girls State this year but I am afraid of having to write and prepare all of my materials there, without being able to use any internet sources. I am also afraid that some of my ideas: i.e. health and nutrition being important, won't be a good (popular) foundation to win. I've heard governors usually stick to a platform involving civil rights issues, would it be bad for me to instead choose health as the main priority? How would i be able to prove my points without being able to source documents and studies? Please help!
