Is it a good idea to apply as a freshman? It gives the impression of being a lot harder that Iowa/Adroit etc. but I'm not very educated on these things so is that the case? How difficult is it to get in?

Summer writing program /journalism
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the summer journalism program Newsroom By the Bay at Stanford? Wondering if it is worth my money, and whether it is actually a selective program with driven students. Considering this one because I need to find a summer writing program quick, having missed other deadlines.
Or would the Juniper Institute for young writers, which still has rolling admissions, be more worthwhile? Is that one more reputable?
I enjoy both creative writing and journalism.
Thanks!

Does anyone know how likely you are to get into one of Georgetown’s 1 week academies if you’re on the waitlist? I’m on the waitlist for the Law Academy and I want to know if there’s any chance I’ll get in.

Physics/Astronomy Prep
Hello.
I am a freshman now and I'm interested in physics/astronomy. My goal is to attend SSP for astrophysics during the summer of my sophomore year. I'm also interested in participating in USAPHO and USAAAO. What resources are good for studying for these exams? Any good recommendations for books/study material for these tests?
Thanks!

HSHSP 2019
Hey guys, I was wondering about who else applied to HSHSP so I decided to create this forum. Also, if you have attended the program before can you tell us what the experience is like/if it's worth it, how colleges consider the program/how It looks on applications, and were you able to do research in the area of interest you listed? Thanks!

Any tips for Pioneer Research Program Interview
Hey guys! I have my interview soon and would appreciate some tips from those who did an interview previously. The email says we have to write an essay, but I have no idea what that entails. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Cornell Pre-College program or teach comp sci to kids
So I got into the Pre-College at cornell for a challenging computer science course that I find interesting. However I'm wondering if it would be better to do that over the summer or just work at a program where I teach computer science to kids and maybe some independant research at home. I know pre-college doesn't help much with admission but it could be a fun experience and I was just wondering if others felt it could be useful.

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) 2019
Hi
I haven’t seen a thread for 2019 yet (sorry if there is!) so I’m starting one. How is everyone getting on with their essays? And is it worth it to go up to the word limit or is less okay?

Accepted/Attending Students at SCAD Rising Star 2019
Hiya! I've been accepted and plan on attending the SCAD Rising Star Program this summer and I'm looking to contact other students attending. My hope is that I'll actually have some people to talk to upon arrival instead of being lost. Another goal of this is that if I or the other person still has some questions maybe the other can answer them! Feel free to reach out to me, and I hope to see you there!

HELP with emailing a professor about an extended internship
Hi,
Recently, a professor has allowed me to intern at her lab (computational pathology lab) over the summer for 6 weeks starting July 5th. She chose this date specifically because she is moving to a new lab (and university) on July 5th.
However, I still have 3 weeks of summer before July and wanted to spend this time interning at her old lab before she moves. I am planning on emailing her about this proposal, but I am afraid she will not be lenient because 1). it might be a hassle to fill out more paperwork and 2). she might be busy moving her lab equipment during these 3 weeks.
I really want to spend these 3 weeks (or 1-2 weeks at minimum) interning at her old lab, so what should I say in my email to try to convince her to let me intern earlier? Also, does anyone know how long the paperwork usually takes the professor, and if this would be a major inconvenience for her? Do you think the fact that she's moving her lab equipment will make it harder to accommodate an intern?
Thanks for your help.

Rejected from all 3 summer programs, what do I do?
Hi, incoming senior here, applied to COSMOS at UC Irvine, SSP, and Boston RISE on bio or biochem thinking that I would have a good shot at maybe COSMOS at least, but got rejected from all 3.
My stats arent bad: 4.3 GPA, 35 ACT, last summer interned at a biotech lab that has closed this year (rip), however I am an asian male trying to be a doctor (haha).
I'm also planning to apply to college as pre-med, and the original plan this year was to something more medical or research related, but that got shut down real fast.
Currently I'm thinking of getting like a basic minimum wage job at a fast food place, been writing cold emails to professors near me (so far 17 emails and no responses
(( ), but honestly don't know what to do from there.
The Pre-College programs seems like just a big waste of money for not much in return in terms of competitiveness for college admissions. Most of the applications I'm pretty sure have closed by now, I just want to do something this summer that look at least okay to admission officers.
Anyone have some ideas?
much appreciated

UMass Amherst Research Intensives Summer Program 2019 (6-week program)
I was recently accepted into the UMass Amherst Research Intensives Summer Program (Markstein Lab). I read through the website, and the research experience seems legit. Does anyone have any information, personal stories, or input they could provide about this program? Any comments about the research experience, college environment, or social life are appreciated.
Do the students get to do authentic, original research with the lab faculty? What does a student's daily schedule look like? How prestigious or competitive is this program? Finally, how does this program compare to other research programs in terms of the overall experience? Thank you guys for your help!

Columbia 3-week Summer Immersion Program
Hey everyone,
I'm attending the Columbia 3-week Immersion Summer Program for High School Students this summer. I decided to take the Introduction to Business, Finance, and Economics class (Session 2) and will be living there for 3 weeks.
Is anybody else going this Summer, maybe we could get in touch beforehand? And if you have attended the Columbia Summer Program before, what are your thoughts about it? (I have heard some very negative things about the program in general but nothing so far on the business course)

Governor School Weight
So I got into GSE in NC for Natural Science which I am looking forward to. I was just wondering if Governor's School holds weight on the college application for in-state and out-of-state. I heard a lot of different opinions, and I just want some clarification
