My daughter in high school is very interested in attending a one week summer business program at Stevens Institute of Technology this summer. Has anyone had their child attend a summer program at Stevens before? We are not from the area so would like information from someone who may have more experience. It seems like a great school! She is interested in applying there for college also.

School of The New York Times

I recently applied and was accepted to the Summer Academy at School of The New York Times (sorry, I know it is not a college). The ~6,000 dollar enrollment fee is obviously hefty for a two-week summer program, so I I want to make sure that attending is the right decision. For those who have done the program in the past—Is it worth it? What can I expect, and what was your experience? Finally, how will this program impact the rest of my life, if at all? As it is I am planning to attend, but I'd like more information and there's little to be found online (not including the official site). For those who are interested, I'd be doing the Creative Writing course. Thanks!

Hey guys, I didn’t see any space for the 2019-2020 YES Abroad people... Did anyone else apply? How’d it go? And does anyone know how the rolling admissions go? Like are finalists called first?

Oh hey there peoples! I'm currently a freshman who has just recently discovered the sumac math camp and plan on trying to get into it next year in summer. I will be taking AP Calculus BC next year in 10th grade but from what I've seen from this year's Admissions Exam, it's pretty difficult to do well on... or even seemingly know what to do on it. Would anyone care to tell me of any resources or concepts that there may be for me to study to do well on on next year's exam? thx.

Iowa Young Writers' Studio 2019

Hey guys! I noticed that although applications are opening January 28, there doesn't seem to be a thread for this year yet. My twin and I were both accepted in the past, and I wanted to make sure everyone has a space to discuss the application and ask questions for 2019. We were both accepted to our dream schools for college (Columbia University for me, Haverford College for her), and believe that IYWS played a role in that, in addition to it simply being an absolutely incredible opportunity for high school students and writers in general. Also, I was considering filming a video on the components of the IYWS application (portfolio, personal statement, etc.), and how I got accepted, ft. my twin, and discussing what it's like to actually go there. Would something like that be helpful to you guys?

deciding between two summer opportunities

Hello all, I have been accepted into an environmental science research program, but I have also been offered a job/internship/opportunity at a lab I volunteered at last summer. I need to decide which place to go to, but it's a very difficult decision. The environmental science program: I will be conducting my own research project while being mentored by a graduate student. This is at a prestigious university, and is a free program. Many of my friends have attended this program, it's structured, the people involved are a very tight family who provide a lot of opportunities down the line after the program. The other opportunity: I will be working with a family friend who also mentored me last year, very involved research in biomedical sciences (specifically electrophysiology), I already have background knowledge. Possibility of a stipend/pay and name on a paper. It is at the same university at the environmental science program. The PI (principal investigator) likes me, so he might be able to write a killer rec if I do well at the lab this summer. I am equally interested in both. All my friends are saying I should go to the environmental science one, but my dad says I should go to the other lab. Also, I don't know if it's bad to just abandon my family friend in favor of another program. It seems like I can't go wrong with either one, but I also don't want to make a "wrong" decision. If I posted this in the wrong thread, please let me know. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Mites or ssp

Hey guys, I was accepted to SSP Colorado today and I’m really excited! However the tuition is pretty steep and I’m not sure how much aid I can get and I’m still waiting on MITES, which is free if I’m not mistaken. On the small chance that I’m also accepted to MITES, which would you suggest I attend? I like both a lot.

SSP vs. YSPA vs. NASA Internships

Hey guys. I recently got accepted to SSP and YSPA. Im hoping to get a NASA internship but because the decision deadlines are approaching quick, can anyone say from experience for example how you would rank each of these summer choices? I know each has their benefits, but generally how would you rank them. Keep in mind SSP has a solid foundation as a program but an 11% acceptance, YSPA is newer (like 5 years old) but has around 5-6 accceptance % and NASA internship is a paid internship probably with a low acceptance rate (depends on internship). I'm not sure what I want to study but if anyone can answer without repeating the "they all are great programs" line, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Does summer programs that are intern based make you look more appealing to college admissioners?

I recently got accepted to this summer volunteering activity at a hospital and we are required to do a minimum of 48 hours over our 2 month summer break. If we are invited to, we can come back during the next school year and continue to volunteer. The only reason why I called it intern based is because we will have to attend education sessions that are taught by professors of various medical areas throughout the summer as well as a requirement of the program. I really want to do this and I just wanted to see if doing this will make me look more appealing compared to other applying students. Thank you.
